Swastika defaces mosque under construction in France
Unidentified individuals have defaced a mosque under construction in Montauban, a town in the Tarn-et-Garonne department of France, by painting a swastika on its facade.
Caliber.Az reports that the incident was highlighted by foreign media citing a publication by the Council of French Muslims (CFCM) on social media platform X.
Alongside the swastika, the vandals wrote, "Go back to your homes, nasty Arabs," in black paint.
The CFCM strongly condemned this blatant act of desecration and expressed its support for the mosque's leadership. The Council emphasized the need for unity and tolerance in the face of such hate-fueled actions.
Brigitte Barej, the head of the Montauban municipality, also condemned the vandalism.
"I condemn in the strongest terms these intolerable inscriptions," Barej wrote on her social media page, noting that municipal staff had swiftly removed the offensive graffiti.
This incident highlights ongoing challenges related to religious intolerance and xenophobia in various parts of Europe.
