Sweden detains Russian ship Adler, conducts inspection
Swedish authorities conducted a night-time inspection of the Russian vessel Adler, which anchored off the coast of Höganäs following an engine breakdown.
The vessel's owner company is involved in arms exports to Russia.
The operation was led by Swedish Customs, with support from the Coast Guard, the National Operations Group, the Security Service, and the Prosecutor’s Office, Caliber.Az reports, citing Swedish broadcaster SVT.
According to Customs spokesperson Martina Höglund, the inspection was carried out smoothly, and the crew “cooperated courteously” with authorities.
The ship had been travelling north through the Øresund Strait but stopped near the Kulla Peninsula after sending a distress signal on December 20 morning.
Adler is owned by the Russian company M Leasing LLC, which is included on U.S. and EU sanctions lists for transporting ammunition from North Korea to Russia.
