Sweden fails to persuade Turkiye to change stance on kingdom's NATO membership
15 May 2022 13:18
Swedish Foreign Minister Anne Linde and Finnish Foreign Minister Pekka Haavisto held talks on May 14 with their Turkish counterpart Mevlut Cavusoglu on the sidelines of an informal meeting in Berlin of NATO foreign ministers and discussed the possible entry of the Nordic countries into the alliance.
In an interview with SVT, Linde said that no agreement has been reached, and the parties will continue negotiations, TASS reports.
"We have different views, but we have made it clear that we consider the PKK a terrorist organization. Like many other NATO allies, we are also negotiating with other Kurdish organizations," she said.
She added that "the diplomats of the parties will continue the dialogue on this issue".
