Sweden refuses to impose ban on Quran burning

The Swedish authorities do not plan to introduce a ban on burning religious books following Denmark, as it would require amendments to the constitution of the kingdom, Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson said, according to TV channel SVT.

The day before, Danish Justice Minister Peter Hummelgaard said that the country's government plans to ban the burning of religious books.

"Each country exposed to acute threats chooses its own way of dealing with them," said the Swedish Prime Minister.

At the same time, he emphasised that he had great respect for Denmark's decision, but following its example for Sweden would mean amending the constitution, so it is not the most appropriate way for the kingdom.
