Sweden temporarily closes embassy in Lebanon Amid escalating security concerns
Sweden has temporarily closed its embassy in Beirut, Lebanon, due to escalating security concerns in the region.
Swedish Minister for Foreign Affairs Tobias Billström announced that the embassy staff will relocate to Cyprus as a precautionary measure, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Billström cited the "extremely worrying" security situation and the potential for conflict escalation as the primary reasons for the decision. He emphasized that the safety of the embassy staff is the top priority.
The Swedish embassy in Beirut, which employs six personnel, will remain closed while the situation is assessed. Although Billström did not specify the exact duration of the closure, it is anticipated that the embassy may remain closed throughout August, with the possibility of an extension depending on how the security situation develops.
