Swedish police seize record haul of illegal hand grenades
Swedish authorities have confiscated an unprecedented number of illegal hand grenades and arrested two men in connection with the case, SVT reports.
The operation took place in Alingsås, near Gothenburg, where police uncovered a group storing more than 50 hand grenades illegally—a quantity described as a record for Sweden.
The raids concluded a months-long investigation. Authorities initially detained one suspect, whose cooperation led quickly to the identification and arrest of a second individual. Over 50 hand grenades were recovered from a building during the search.
“We have sufficient grounds to say that this is the largest seizure of hand grenades ever discovered in Sweden,” said Magnus Dahl, head of the investigative team.
The suspects, aged 35 and 36, now face charges for the illegal possession and handling of explosive and flammable materials. The 35-year-old also faces additional drug-related charges.
Investigators believe the network involved is broader than the two men arrested, with the pair primarily responsible for transporting and storing the weapons. Authorities continue to probe potential links to other individuals involved in the operation.
