Swedish publication compares JAS 39 Gripen fighter jet with Russia’s best combat aircraft

Swedish fourth-generation fighter jet “JAS 39 Gripen” could fight in a battle with the best Russian aircraft.

The statement came from 19FortyFive Columnist Harrison Kass, Lenta.Ru reports.

Kass called the fighter jet the one that is “maddening” Russia.

According to him, the single-seat single-engine multifunctional Swedish fighter jet was made according to the canard aerodynamic configuration with a mid-delta wing. Kass evaluates the Gripen as a replacement for the ageing Draken and Viggen aircraft.

“The Swedes needed a new jet capable accelerating up to Mach 2, taking off from short runways, smaller than the Viggen but with a larger payload,” he wrote.

However, the author adds an open conflict between Sweden and Russia is unlikely to happen.
