Switzerland cuts protective status for over 32,000 Ukrainians
26 May 2025 20:49
The Swiss State Secretariat for Migration has announced that more than 32,000 Ukrainians residing in Switzerland have lost their protective S status, which has allowed them to legally stay in the country since 2022.
Some 68,609 Ukrainians currently retain the protective status, while 32,616 have had this status revoked, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Swiss State Secretariat for Migration’s message on X.
The message also highlights a shift in Swiss immigration policy, with authorities increasingly denying applications for protective status. In 2022, around 99 per cent of applicants were granted the status; however, this approval rate has dropped to 87 per cent in 2024.
