Switzerland hosts new round of Ukraine-US-Russia negotiations PHOTO

17 February 2026 17:44

Secretary of the National Security and Defence Council (NSDC) of Ukraine, Rustem Umerov, has announced the launch of a new round of negotiations in Switzerland involving Ukraine, the United States, and Russia.

Umerov shared the update on his Telegram channel, confirming that discussions are proceeding in a trilateral format and will focus on key security and humanitarian issues.

“Today we are beginning another round of negotiations in a trilateral format – Ukraine, the United States, and Russia. We thank the American side for its engagement and consistent work in the negotiation process. We are grateful to Switzerland for organizing and providing the conditions for holding the meetings. We act under a mandate approved by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, and the priority topics on the agenda are security and humanitarian issues.

We are working constructively, with focus and without unnecessary expectations. Our task is to advance as much as possible the decisions that can bring a sustainable peace closer,” he stated.

On December 14–15, 2025, the Ukrainian delegation led by President Volodymyr Zelenskyy held negotiations in Berlin with representatives of the United States on a proposed 20-point peace plan aimed at ending the war. The Secretary of the National Security and Defense Council (NSDC) described the discussions as “productive,” noting that the parties had managed to achieve a degree of progress. Subsequently, US Ambassador to NATO Matthew Whitaker stated that four draft documents were reviewed during the talks, adding that Washington is seeking clarity on what concessions Moscow may be prepared to make in order to end the aggression.

On January 23–24, trilateral negotiations between Ukraine, the United States, and Russia took place in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. According to Umerov, the meeting was intended to advance efforts toward a just and lasting peace. A White House official, as cited by the Ukrainian delegation, characterized the discussions as “productive.”

A further round of talks involving Ukrainian, American, and Russian representatives was held in Abu Dhabi on February 4 and 5. Umerov stated that participants focused on potential mechanisms for implementing a ceasefire and establishing monitoring arrangements to ensure compliance with a cessation of hostilities.

On February 13, it was announced that the next round of negotiations between the United States, Ukraine, and Russia is scheduled to take place in Geneva on February 17–18. The date was confirmed by Ukrainian presidential adviser Dmytro Lytvyn, following an earlier announcement by Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov.
