Switzerland to station military attaché in Poland

Switzerland will expand its military-diplomatic presence in Europe by permanently stationing a military attaché in Poland during the first half of 2027, the Swiss government announced on June 19.

The move comes as European nations respond to a deteriorating security environment across the continent, according to a statement issued by the Swiss Federal Council, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media. 

“In light of the deteriorating security situation in Europe, Switzerland is expanding its military-diplomatic presence,” the government said, adding that the new attaché will be based in Warsaw.

Swiss authorities said the decision is aimed at improving and accelerating the flow of security-related information from countries in northeastern Europe, a region increasingly viewed as strategically important.

Until now, Switzerland’s military cooperation with Poland and Estonia has been managed by military attachés accredited to Germany and Sweden. 

The government also indicated that further expansion of its network of military attachés in northeastern Europe remains under consideration.
