Syrian information minister calls for shift to “peace journalism” in Ankara visit PHOTO
Syria’s Minister of Information, Hamza al-Mustafa, has urged media outlets to move away from “war journalism” towards a model focused on peace and dialogue.
Speaking at an international symposium on media policy in conflict zones, al-Mustafa called on politicians and journalists to avoid coverage centred on destruction and hatred, Caliber.Az reports via foreign media.
Instead, he encouraged reporting that analyses the root causes of crises and promotes conflict resolution.
The minister, who was in Ankara at the invitation of Burhaneddin Duran, was accompanied by deputy ministers Mohammed Tafran and Abdullah al-Mousa. The visit aimed to strengthen coordination between Syria and Türkiye in the fields of media and communications.
During a session titled “Türkiye’s Role as a Peacemaker in Conflict Zones from a Media Perspective”, al-Mustafa outlined the ministry’s plans for the post-conflict period, emphasising the role of the media in bridging divisions, supporting civil peace, and facilitating transitional justice.
He also expressed gratitude to Türkiye for its diplomatic and humanitarian support, noting the country’s efforts to create a media environment where Syrian journalists can operate and protect their rights.
