Syrian president kicks off US visit with basketball game VIDEO
Syrian President Ahmed al-Sharaa began his official visit to the United States with an informal basketball game, a moment shared by Syrian Foreign Minister Asaad al-Sheibani on Instagram.
During the game, the post reads, al-Sharaa was joined by U.S. Central Command head Admiral Brad Cooper and Admiral Kevin Lambert, commander of the international anti-ISIS coalition in Iraq, Caliber.Az reports.
The video shows al-Sharaa shaking hands with Lambert and giving him a friendly pat on the shoulder at the end of the match.
President al-Sharaa and Foreign Minister al-Sheibani arrived in the U.S. on November 8.
The Syrian leader’s visit became possible after Washington removed him from its list of specially designated global terrorists, clearing the way for diplomatic engagement.
