Szijjártó: EU meets Budapest's conditions for Ukraine accession talks
Hungarian Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Economic Relations, Péter Szijjártó, announced that the European Union has met Hungary's conditions to initiate negotiations with Ukraine regarding its accession to the EU.
According to TASS, Szijjártó stated, "In recent days, there has been intense debate over the conditions for starting negotiations with Ukraine regarding EU accession."
He highlighted that Brussels has agreed to include Hungarian conditions in the framework document for negotiations with Ukraine. These conditions primarily focus on restoring the rights of the Hungarian minority in Transcarpathia, a longstanding concern of the Hungarian government.
Recently, the date for the commencement of negotiations on Ukraine's accession to the EU was scheduled. Earlier reports indicated Brussels' intention to accelerate these talks before July 1, coinciding with Hungary assuming the EU presidency.
