03 June 2026 17:34

Tajikistan and Pakistan have agreed to establish a joint commission on trade, economic, scientific and technical cooperation following the 8th meeting of their bilateral forum held on 2–3 June in Dushanbe.

According to Avesta, the announcement was made by the press service of Tajikistan’s Ministry of Energy and Water Resources.

The session was co-chaired by Tajik Minister of Energy and Water Resources Daler Juma and Pakistan’s Federal Minister for Energy Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, with both sides represented by senior delegations.

Discussions focused on expanding cooperation across a broad range of sectors, including trade, investment, agriculture, energy, education, banking, science and technology, tourism, youth affairs, sport, transport and communications.

Officials noted that bilateral trade reached USD 43 million in 2025, while turnover stood at USD 8.9 million in the January–March 2026 period.

The CASA-1000 electricity transmission project featured prominently in talks, with both sides underlining its strategic importance for strengthening regional energy connectivity.

The meeting concluded with the signing of a protocol formalising the outcomes of the commission’s 8th session.
