Tehran emphasises necessity of addressing regional differences with Türkiye

Iran’s Foreign Ministry has reaffirmed its commitment to maintaining strong ties with Türkiye, emphasizing the need to address any regional disagreements through dialogue and cooperation.

This statement comes amidst growing concerns over the political instability in Syria and broader regional developments, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian media.

In a press conference on April 7, Esmaeil Baqaei, spokesperson for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, addressed the state of relations between Tehran and Ankara, emphasizing the longstanding bond between the two nations as Muslim neighbors. “We are determined to preserve our close relationship and manage any disagreements on regional issues,” Baqaei remarked.

He also highlighted Iran’s concerns regarding the ongoing situation in Syria, stressing that any power vacuum created by the conflict would only benefit Israel, which could exploit the situation to further its agenda in the region. Baqaei condemned recent Israeli attacks on Syria, which have left critical infrastructure in ruins, and called for a collective effort among regional countries to prevent further Israeli violations.

The discussion on regional matters was further underscored by a recent telephone call between Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on March 29. During the call, the two leaders discussed plans for a future meeting to address issues of mutual interest and ongoing developments in both the regional and international arenas.

President Raisi expressed hope that the upcoming meeting would further enhance bilateral relations and facilitate closer cooperation on key regional challenges.
