Tehran highlights strengthening economic cooperation with Lebanon
A high-level diplomatic and economic delegation led by Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi visited Beirut as Tehran intents to deepen bilateral ties with Lebanon.
On January 8, Araghchi participated in a joint meeting with representatives of Lebanon’s economic community and leading business figures, Caliber.Az reports, citing Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Discussions centered on the prospects for expanding economic and trade cooperation between the two countries.
During the meeting, the Iranian foreign minister emphasized the importance of coordinated efforts by the private sectors of Iran and Lebanon to identify and develop new avenues of cooperation across a wide range of economic and commercial fields. He highlighted the role of private enterprise as a key driver in strengthening bilateral economic relations.
Araghchi also described his talks with Lebanon’s Minister of Economy and Trade as productive, noting that they reflected a shared commitment to advancing mutual economic interests. In this context, he expressed Iran’s readiness to convene a meeting of the joint Iran–Lebanon economic commission at the earliest possible opportunity, signaling a desire to institutionalize and accelerate cooperation.
Entrepreneurs from both countries used the meeting to exchange views on ways to boost bilateral trade, while also identifying existing challenges and structural obstacles hindering deeper economic engagement. Participants stressed the importance of sustained private-sector involvement, supported by effective government backing, to unlock the full potential of economic collaboration between Iran and Lebanon.
The discussions reflected a mutual interest in enhancing trade ties and creating practical mechanisms to facilitate broader economic cooperation between the two nations.
