Terrorist attack on police officers foiled in Poland
Polish special services have prevented a terrorist attack on police officers.
According to investigators, an 18-year-old young man, who converted to Islam in late 2022, wanted to commit a terrorist act in the police commandant's office in the Lower Silesia Voivodship with the help of a "martyr belt", the local radio station RMF FM reports.
The local prosecutor's office sent an indictment to the court in Swidnica.
As the prosecutor's office said, the young man, among other things, took an example from Osama bin Laden, the founder of the al-Qaeda terrorist organisation, was inspired by the activities of the Islamic State and made contact with militants.
The attacker was apprehended by officers of the Internal Security Agency while he was looking for information about the design of the explosive device as well as its components.
The prosecutor's office said that a search of the detainee's home found evidence of the alleged offence. The young man faces up to eight years in prison if proven guilty in court.
