Tesla expands in India with New Delhi showroom

11 August 2025 16:38

US electric vehicle giant Tesla inaugurated its first showroom on August 11 in the National Capital Region of India, located in Delhi’s Aerocity. This marks Tesla’s second retail outlet in the country, following its recent debut in Mumbai just a month ago.

Tesla announced plans to commence deliveries in India by September 2025, along with expanding its supercharging infrastructure across key cities including Delhi-NCR, Mumbai, and Bengaluru, Caliber.Az reports via Business Standard

The newly opened showroom at Aerocity occupies 8,200 square feet within the Worldmark 3 project, leased from Oak Infrastructure Pvt Ltd under a nine-year contract. The starting rent is $21,000 per month, with a 15 per cent increase every three years, according to real estate analytics firm CRE Matrix.

At the Aerocity location, Tesla is showcasing its Model Y, available in two India-specific variants: the Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) with a 60kWh battery and the Long Range RWD featuring a 75kWh battery.

Prices start at ₹59.89 lakh ($73,000) for the RWD and ₹67.89 lakh ($83,000) for the Long Range RWD, ex-showroom. Tesla’s Full Self-Driving package is offered separately at ₹6 lakh ($7,300).

Customers can select from six exterior colors with Stealth Grey as the standard option, and choose black or white interiors.

The five-seat layout includes heated rear seats and ventilated front seats. Bookings are open via Tesla’s India website and at showrooms in Mumbai, Delhi, and Gurugram. Initial deliveries and registrations will be limited to these three cities, with handovers expected to begin in Q3 2025.

Looking ahead, Tesla intends to expand further by opening a showroom in Bengaluru.

“The other new market, new states... We cannot miss Bangalore very soon,” Tesla Regional Director for Southeast Asia, Isabel Fan, told PTI at the Aerocity event. She emphasised the company’s cautious approach to commitments, stating, “We don't commit five-year plans that we cannot deliver. So whatever we share is a commitment in the upcoming (period).”

Tesla’s future plans in India include mobile servicing, remote diagnostics, additional service centres, and an approved Tesla Collision Centre to support the growing customer base.
