Texas flood death toll rises to 129, over 160 still missing
A devastating flood in Texas has claimed the lives of at least 129 people, with 166 others reported missing, local authorities confirmed.
The hardest-hit area is Kerr County, where 103 fatalities have been confirmed, including 36 children, Caliber.Az reports, citing Western media.
The disaster was triggered by torrential rains that caused the Guadalupe River to rise by nearly eight meters within minutes, overwhelming communities in its path.
Meteorologists have issued warnings of additional heavy rainfall and potential flooding through the evening of July 13, raising concerns about further damage and risks to residents.
The flooding, triggered by a mesoscale convective complex and remnants of Tropical Storm Barry, brought 5–11 inches of rain, with some areas receiving up to 15 inches, from July 4 to 7. The Guadalupe River surged dramatically, rising 26 feet in 45 minutes in Kerrville and up to 29 feet in Hunt, overwhelming low-lying areas, including Camp Mystic.
