Thai soldier injured in “accidental” mortar fire from Cambodia
A Thai soldier was injured after mortar shells from Cambodian forces struck the Chong Bok district, in what Cambodia is describing as an accidental incident.
The Thai military has stated that Cambodia violated the ceasefire signed last month. The soldier was hit by shrapnel and evacuated for emergency medical treatment, Caliber.Az reports via Thai media.
Following the incident, Thai commanders contacted their Cambodian counterparts, who reportedly said the firing was unintentional.
"A military unit in the area was contacted by the Cambodian side, which explained that there was no intention to fire on Thai territory and that the incident was caused by an operational error," the Thai military confirmed in a follow-up statement.
Thailand and Cambodia share an 800-kilometer border, where disputes over territory and centuries-old temples have repeatedly sparked tensions. The latest round of clashes, from December 7 to December 27, 2025, left more than 40 people dead and displaced nearly one million residents on both sides.
