Three dead, two injured in helicopter crash off Hawaii’s Kauai
A helicopter crash off the coast of Kauai in Hawaii has left three people dead and two others injured.
Hawaii News Now reported that police received a call at approximately 15:45 local time about a helicopter that had gone down in the ocean near Kalalau Beach.
The US Coast Guard said the aircraft crashed roughly 100 yards (about 91 meters) from the shoreline.
The helicopter, operated by Airborne Aviation, was carrying five people, including one pilot and four passengers. Two survivors were rescued and transported to Wilcox Medical Centre for medical treatment.
A large-scale emergency response was launched following the crash. Personnel from the Kauai Fire Department, Kauai Police Department, Kauai Emergency Management Agency, the US Coast Guard, American Medical Response, and the Hawaii Department of Land and Natural Resources were all deployed to the scene.
