Three hurt as small plane touches down on busy street in Germany
A single-engine plane made an emergency landing on a busy street in Mannheim, Germany, local media say.
According to sources, there were three people on board: a 23-year-old pilot, a 23-year-old woman, and a 37-year-old man. All sustained injuries, with the pilot’s condition reported as serious.
According to the fire department, one person suffered a broken bone during the emergency landing.
The damage to the aircraft amounts to approximately €400,000. "No damage to third parties has been reported so far," the police stated. They initially assumed it was a glider, according to their own statement.
Rescuers extricated the victims from the trapped cockpit and transported them to nearby hospitals. Police, 12 emergency responders, and 19 firefighters were on the scene.
The Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation in Germany is conducting an investigation into the cause of the forced landing.
