Three migrants killed while trying to cross English Channel to Britain

Three migrants, including a child, died on September 28 while attempting to cross the English Channel from France to Britain, Reuters reports, citing French authorities.

French maritime police said they received a distress call from an inflatable boat carrying 105 people after it encountered difficulties in calm waters. The incident occurred just hours before Pope Leo was scheduled to deliver a speech focused on peace and unity in Europe.

The English Channel remains one of the main routes used by migrants seeking to reach the United Kingdom from France. Despite the risks posed by strong currents, heavy maritime traffic and unpredictable weather conditions, thousands of people continue to attempt the crossing each year in small boats.
