Three states oppose EU plan to redirect Russian assets revenue to Ukraine
Three European Union member states, Hungary, Malta, and Luxembourg, have voiced their dissent against the proposal put forward by European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen to utilize profits generated from frozen Russian assets to aid Ukraine.
This opposition comes in the wake of an EU agreement to allocate approximately €3 billion to Ukraine for reconstruction efforts, as reported by Politico, citing inside sources.
At a recent meeting of European ambassadors on March 13, representatives from Hungary, Malta, and Luxembourg expressed their reservations regarding the proposed plan. They argued that implementing such a strategy could "complicate negotiations" surrounding potential uses for Russian assets. Politico further highlights that these statements were made ahead of an upcoming summit of EU leaders scheduled for the following week.
