Top official: Azerbaijan to consider border opening later
The term of the special quarantine regime in Azerbaijan has been extended until July 1.
Assistant to Azerbaijan’s President, Head of Economic Affairs and Innovation Development Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Shahmar Movsumov made the remarks while commenting on the opening of land borders, APA reports.
Movsumov noted that the issue of opening the land borders will be considered later.
At the time the COVID-19 pandemic began to spread globally, Azerbaijan introduced a special quarantine regime countrywide for minimizing the spread of infection cases. To date, all the COVID-19 restrictions, despite border closure, have been lifted.
On May 5, the World Health Organisation declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern (PHEIC) for COVID-19. As there has been a downward trend in the number of infections for more than a year, allowing most countries to return to pre-COVID normality, WHO cancelled the pandemic status replacing it with a “global health emergency”.
