Top US general to visit Poland

US General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the U.S. Armed Forces, is expected to visit Warsaw next week for talks on Washington’s decision to cancel the deployment of a U.S. armoured brigade to Poland.

The visit is scheduled for May 20 and comes amid growing questions about the future of the U.S. military presence in Poland after the United States decided not to send around 4,000 troops, Caliber.Az reports via Polish media.

During the visit, General Caine is expected to hold talks with Poland’s Minister of National Defenve, Władysław Marcin Kosiniak-Kamysz, as well as meetings with the leadership of the Polish General Staff. The discussions are expected to focus on further military cooperation and regional security issues.

Earlier, U.S. Army Commander General Christopher LaNeve described the cancellation of the brigade’s deployment as “the most sensible option” under the instructions received. The move, however, has reportedly raised concerns in Poland.

At the same time, a Polish delegation led by deputy defence ministers is conducting consultations in the United States, while Poland’s Foreign Ministry continues diplomatic contacts on the issue.
