Tragic train collision in Indonesia kills 14, leaves dozens wounded
A railway accident near Jakarta in Indonesia has left at least 14 people dead and dozens more injured, as rescue teams continue searching through the wreckage.
The crash occurred near Bekasi Timur station, where a passenger train collided with another train travelling on the same route, Caliber.Az reports per British media.
Head of the rescue agency Mohammad Syafii said some victims are still trapped under the debris, with several believed to be alive but unable to move due to crushed carriage structures. Rescue operations are ongoing.
According to KAI railway company head Bobby Rasyidin, 84 people were injured and taken to the hospital. Preliminary reports suggest the accident may have been triggered after a vehicle blocked a level crossing, forcing one of the trains to stop.
Police officials also warned that additional passengers may still be inside the damaged carriages.
Authorities have confirmed that medical costs and funeral expenses for victims will be covered, while the station remains closed indefinitely as investigations continue.
