Train derails in Mexico, killing 13 PHOTO
At least 13 people were killed and 98 others injured after a train derailed in Mexico’s south-western Oaxaca state, the country’s Ministry of the Navy reported on December 28.
“Thirty-nine people are out of danger, 98 were injured, including 36 who are receiving medical treatment in the hospital. We regret to report that 13 people have died,” the statement said.
The train, which was travelling between the Gulf of Mexico and the Pacific Ocean, was carrying 241 passengers and nine crew members.

The train derailed as it rounded a bend near the town of Nizanda, officials said. Mexico's Attorney General confirmed an investigation was underway.
Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum said five of those injured were in a serious condition.
