A major fire has broken out in a coaching centre building in the city of Lucknow in India’s northern state of Uttar Pradesh, leaving at least 14 people dead, Deputy Chief Minister Brajesh Pathak told reporters.
At the time of the fire, students aged 16–17 were inside the building. Several others were injured. Videos circulating on social media showed students jumping from windows in an attempt to escape flames and heavy smoke, according to Indian media.
Firefighters and rescue teams are working at the scene, and dozens of people have been evacuated from the building.
Authorities said the cause of the fire is still under investigation, and a formal probe has been launched.
