Trilateral talks between US, Iran, Pakistan held in face-to-face format
Senior U.S. and Iranian officials met in Islamabad on April 11 for the highest-level direct talks between Washington and Tehran in over fifty years, as they sought to negotiate an end to their six-week war.
The face-to-face discussions, which took place in a trilateral format with Pakistan, lasted for two hours before the delegations took a break, according to a Pakistani source speaking to Reuters.
The U.S. delegation included Vice President JD Vance, Special Envoy Steve Witkoff, and President Donald Trump's son-in-law, Jared Kushner, while the Iranian side was represented by Parliamentary Speaker Mohammad Baqer Qalibaf and Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi. The talks were seen as a significant step toward de-escalating tensions between the two nations, which have been locked in conflict for over a month.
Adding to the importance of the meeting, Pakistan's army chief was also present.
