Truck driver injured by landmine in Azerbaijan's Jabrayil

A mine incident took place in the Horovlu village of Azerbaijan's Jabrayil district, which was recently freed from occupation.

A joint statement from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MIA), the General Prosecutor's Office, and the Azerbaijan Republic Mine Action Agency (ANAMA) confirmed the incident, Caliber.Az reports.

Nuruyev Raghib Sahavat oglu (1991), a resident of Goranboy district, was driving a truck in an area assumed to be demined. The vehicle hit an anti-tank mine, causing an explosion.

As a result, the driver sustained injuries of varying severity. The Jabrayil district prosecutor's office is currently investigating the incident.

"ANAMA, the Interior Ministry, and the Prosecutor General's Office of Azerbaijan once again urge citizens to observe safety rules, heed mine danger signs, and avoid entering unfamiliar terrain," the joint statement emphasized.

Since the end of the war in 2020, 361 Azerbaijani citizens, primarily civilians, have fallen victim to mine explosions, resulting in 68 fatalities and 293 serious injuries. Since the onset of Armenia's aggression against Azerbaijan, over 3,400 Azerbaijani citizens have been affected by mines, including 358 children and 38 women.

The increasing number of mine victims is linked to Armenia's refusal to provide accurate maps of the mines it planted across Azerbaijan's territory and its placement of booby traps along roads, cemeteries, and other civilian areas behind the former line of contact.

Between 2020 and 2023, new mine zones, extending up to 500 km, were created, with additional mines planted in Azerbaijan.
