Trump accuses Iran of orchestrating Houthi attacks, vows severe retaliation

17 March 2025 22:36

US President Donald Trump condemned Iran's role in supporting Houthi attacks in Yemen, calling the group "sinister mobsters and thugs" backed by Iran.

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump issued a warning blaming Iran for orchestrating Houthi attacks and threatening severe retaliation, Caliber.Az reports.

He said Iran is supplying weapons, funding, and intelligence to the Houthis, asserting that any future attacks would be treated as direct acts of aggression by Iran.

“Let nobody be fooled! The hundreds of attacks being made by Houthi, the sinister mobsters and thugs based in Yemen, who are hated by the Yemeni people, all emanate from, and are created by, IRAN. Any further attack or retaliation by the ‘Houthis’ will be met with great force, and there is no guarantee that that force will stop there. Iran has played ‘the innocent victim’ of rogue terrorists from which they’ve lost control, but they haven’t lost control.

They’re dictating every move, giving them the weapons, supplying them with money and highly sophisticated military equipment, and even, so-called, ‘Intelligence.’ Every shot fired by the Houthis will be looked upon, from this point forward, as being a shot fired from the weapons and leadership of IRAN, and IRAN will be held responsible, and suffer the consequences, and those consequences will be dire!” Trump said in a post.

Meanwhile, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz has stated that the United States is prepared to expand its military operations in Yemen, targeting Iranian ships that are allegedly supporting the Houthi rebel group.

"We will hold not only the Houthis accountable, but we're going to hold Iran, their backers, accountable as well," Waltz stated, warning that Iranian intelligence and military assets supporting Houthi attacks could become US targets.

This potential expansion of US military actions to include Iranian vessels and personnel represents a significant escalation in an already volatile conflict. The Houthis have repeatedly attacked key shipping routes, forcing global trade to reroute away from the Red Sea.

US officials argue that Iran’s involvement in supporting the Houthis is a direct threat to international trade and security. However, Iran denies providing assistance to the Houthis, maintaining that the group operates independently.
