US President Donald Trump said Washington is working to secure a brief pause between Israel and Lebanon, adding that the first talks between the countries’ leaders in 34 years are set to take place on April 16.
“We are trying to get a small pause between Israel and Lebanon. It’s been a long time since the two leaders spoke — about 34 years,” Trump wrote on his social media platform, Truth Social.

On April 14, talks were held in Washington between Israel’s ambassador to the US, Yechiel Leiter, and Lebanon’s ambassador, Nada Hamadeh Moawad. US State Department representatives present at the meeting said the sides agreed to begin direct negotiations.
