Trump alleges massive misuse of USAID funds to influence media coverage
US President Donald Trump has alleged that billions of dollars were misappropriated from USAID and other agencies, claiming that much of the money was used to fund favourable media coverage for the Democrats.
“The left-wing “rag,” known as “Politico,” seems to have received $8,000,000,” Trump said on Truth Social, Caliber.Az reports.
“Did The New York Times receive money??? Who else did??? This could be the biggest scandal of them all, perhaps the biggest in history! The Democrats can’t hide from this one. Too big, too dirty!”
To recap, the Trump administration has ordered a near-total withdrawal of US Agency for International Development (USAID) personnel worldwide, effectively dismantling a six-decade mission that supports global security through humanitarian aid.
This decision, driven by returning Trump-era appointees and Elon Musk’s government-efficiency teams, halts key programs combating starvation, disease, and education gaps. The move, taking effect on February 7, will force thousands of employees to return home and terminate contractors, jeopardizing billions in aid projects across 120 countries, including Ukraine and Afghanistan.
The abrupt shutdown has left food, medicine, and emergency response efforts stalled. Critics argue USAID’s closure lacks congressional approval and undermines US strategic interests. The American Foreign Service Association is preparing legal action, while affected staff scramble to relocate.
Despite bipartisan support for USAID’s role in countering global adversaries, the administration’s budget-cutting agenda appears determined to dissolve the agency, raising concerns over America’s global influence and humanitarian commitments.
