Trump announces temporary suspension of transit fees in Strait of Hormuz

21 June 2026 09:12

US President Donald Trump has announced that no transit fees will be charged for vessels passing through the Strait of Hormuz during a 60-day ceasefire period, outlining the measure as part of a broader effort to support the implementation of a potential agreement.

In a statement published on his social media platform, Trump said that no fees would be imposed during the 60-day ceasefire and added that they would also not be introduced after the period expires if the agreement is fully implemented.

However, the US president noted that if a final agreement is not reached, such charges could be imposed by the United States as compensation for what he described as past, present, and future security services provided to Middle Eastern countries.

“There will be NO TOLLS in the  Hormuz Strait for 60 days during the Cease Fire Period, and there will be NO TOLLS after the 60 day period has expired, unless they are imposed by and for the United States of America, should the deal not be completed, for services rendered as the Guardian Angel to the countries of the Middle East for purposes of both past, present, and future reimbursement of costs,” Trump wrote.
