Trump announces upcoming talks with Xi after US-China trade talks “went very well”
US President Donald Trump said he will speak with Chinese President Xi Jinping on September 19, following what he described as successful trade negotiations in Europe.
“The big Trade Meeting in Europe between The United States of America, and China, has gone VERY WELL! It will be concluding shortly. I will be speaking to President Xi on Friday. The relationship remains a very strong one!!!” Trump wrote on Truth Social, Caliber.Az reports.
Trump also suggested that the two sides had reached a breakthrough on the fate of a “certain” company.
“A deal was also reached on a ‘certain’ company that young people in our Country very much wanted to save. They will be very happy!” he posted.
The president did not name the company, but his comments come ahead of a US deadline to secure a divestment agreement for ByteDance Ltd.’s TikTok, in order to comply with national security requirements. Trump hinted that an arrangement could allow the popular video app to continue operating in the United States.
The talks between Washington and Beijing are taking place in Spain and, according to Trump, are nearing their conclusion. He has already extended the deadline more than once to keep TikTok available, noting its popularity with young voters whom he credited with helping his previous campaign.
