Trump appoints Will Scharf as White House counsel

10 August 2026 13:50

US President Donald Trump has appointed Will Scharf as White House counsel, with Scharf set to take over the position from David Warrington on September 1.

Sharing a post on Truth Social, he said Warrington has served as White House counsel since January 2025 and will move to the private sector, Caliber.Az reports.

“Will has done an amazing job in his current role as White House Staff Secretary, and has also served as Chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission. I know Will well! <…> Will is Tough, Strong, and Smart! He also loves our Country, and respects the Law. Will Scharf will do a great job as White House Counsel!” Trump wrote.

Scharf worked with Trump during his first presidency and his 2024 presidential campaign.

Since the start of Trump's second term, he has served in the administration, most recently as chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission.

In that role, Scharf helped Trump secure approval for the construction of a new ballroom at the White House.

As White House counsel, Scharf will advise the president on legal and policy matters, coordinate with the Justice Department, prepare certain documents and perform other duties.
