Trump backs potential Vance–Rubio dream team for 2028 elections
US President Donald Trump has suggested that a Republican presidential ticket featuring Vice President J.D. Vance and Secretary of State Marco Rubio in 2028 would be exceptionally strong, describing the potential pairing as “very hard to beat.”
Speaking on the Pod Force One podcast with Miranda Devine, Trump praised the working relationship between the two senior administration figures, both of whom are widely viewed as potential contenders for the Republican presidential nomination in 2028, The Guardian reports.
“I would think that JD and Marco as a team would be very hard to beat,” Trump said during the interview.
The president also highlighted the rapport between Vance and Rubio, suggesting their personal chemistry could be a significant political asset.
“It’s interesting, human thing, the human equation. So I watch them together, they get along great,” he added.
Speculation about the Republican Party’s post-Trump leadership has continued to grow, with both Vance and Rubio frequently mentioned among the party’s leading future candidates. Rubio recently drew positive reviews for his appearance at a White House press briefing, where his polished performance, humor, and reference to 1990s hip-hop while discussing Iran’s negotiating position attracted attention from Republicans and some Democrats alike.
Trump has repeatedly fueled discussion about potential successors, even as both Vance and Rubio have sought to downplay talk of their presidential ambitions for 2028.
