Trump blames Supreme Court for possible $159 billion tariff refunds
U.S. President Donald J. Trump has sharply criticised the United States Supreme Court over a ruling on tariffs, claiming it cost the country billions of dollars.
In a post on the social media platform Truth Social, Trump argued that “people and companies” had taken advantage of the United States for decades due to what he described as a “horrible and ridiculous” court decision.
He claimed that the ruling now requires the U.S. to return $159 billion, suggesting that a minor change in wording could have prevented the payout.
“All they had to do was one little half sentence… and our Country would be 159 Billion Dollars richer,” Trump wrote.
Trump framed the issue as a failure to protect national economic interests, questioning why the court did not include language that would have prevented refunds of tariffs already collected.
