Trump calls European summit “A big day at the White House”

U.S. President Donald Trump has called the day “a big day at the White House” as he prepares to meet with a record number of European leaders.

In a post on X, Trump wrote:

“A big day at the White House. We have never had so many European Leaders here at one time. A great honor for America!!! Let's see what the results will be???”

To recall, Trump is set to meet Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy at the White House on August 18, joined by several European leaders, in discussions pivotal to the future of Ukraine as the nation seeks an end to the war with Russia. 

The meetings come shortly after Trump’s summit in Alaska on August 15 with Russian President Vladimir Putin, where he shifted his stance to support Russia’s position that military operations should continue without a ceasefire or additional sanctions, while negotiations for a peace deal move forward. 

U.S. Special Envoy Steve Witkoff confirmed that Trump and Putin also agreed on providing “robust security guarantees” for Ukraine during their discussions.
