Trump calls for revoking ABC, NBC broadcasters' licenses Over “unfair coverage”
US President Donald Trump has said he would support revoking the broadcast licenses of ABC and NBC.
“Why is it that ABC and NBC FAKE NEWS, two of the absolute worst and most biased networks anywhere in the World, aren’t paying Millions of Dollars a year in LICENSE FEES,” he wrote on Truth Social, per Caliber.Az.
He said the two broadcasters should lose their licenses over what he described as unfair coverage of Republicans and conservatives.
At the very least, he added, they should be required to pay heavily for the right to use valuable public airwaves.
According to Trump, “crooked journalism” should not be rewarded but shut down.
Tensions between Donald Trump and major U.S. media networks have been a recurring theme since his first presidential campaign in 2016. During his time in office and after returning to the White House in 2025, Trump has frequently accused outlets such as CNN, ABC, NBC, and The New York Times of spreading “fake news” and unfairly targeting conservatives.
The Federal Communications Commission (FCC), which oversees broadcast licenses, typically does not intervene based on editorial content, as such actions could violate First Amendment protections. The White House has not yet provided further details on how the administration might pursue such measures, and neither ABC nor NBC has issued an immediate response to the president's comments.
