Trump calls for security upgrade in Washington after White House shooting
US President Donald Trump has drawn conclusions from the shooting incident near the White House, stating that it highlights the need to establish a safer environment in Washington for future presidents.
In a post on Truth Social, he said the incident occurred a month after a shooting at a White House Correspondents’ dinner and demonstrates the importance of creating the safest and most secure facility of this kind in the US capital.
“This event is one month removed from the White House Correspondent’Dinner shooting, and goes to show how important it is, for all future Presidents, to get, what will be, the most safe and secure space of its kind ever built in Washington, D.C.,” he said, adding that this is a matter of US national security.
Trump also confirmed that the shooter was neutralized, describing him as a violent individual who was possibly obsessed with the “Country’s most cherished structure.”
He thanked Secret Service agents and law enforcement officers for their swift and professional response.
