Trump calls Xi Jinping “the boss” of China
US President Donald Trump described Chinese President Xi Jinping as “the boss” in his country, highlighting his strong authority among Chinese citizens.
Aboard his plane heading to Florida, Trump told journalists that he observes President Xi carefully and considers him highly respected in China, Caliber.Az reports.
I think President Xi is the boss. I watch it very closely and he's highly respected in China. He's the boss,” the president stated.
Emphasising his strong relationship with Xi Jinping, Trump noted that he does not want China to take over Canada.
The president warned Canada of possible serious consequences if it signs a trade deal with China, ironically adding that Beijing would first of all put an end to hockey in the country.
The US administration has threatened to impose 100 % tariffs on Canada if Ottawa pushes ahead with a trade arrangement involving China, arguing such a deal could undermine US economic interests.
China responded by saying its trade deals with Canada are not aimed at third parties and emphasised cooperation.
Ongoing strain between Washington and Ottawa is rooted in broader US-Canada disputes, including tariff threats and certification disputes over Canadian aircraft, which have escalated diplomatic friction beyond just China‑related trade ties.
