Trump cancels US delegation trip to Pakistan for Iran talks

25 April 2026 21:30

U.S. President Donald Trump said that American negotiators will no longer travel to Pakistan for talks with Iran, arguing that such a trip is unnecessary given Washington’s position.

Speaking to Fox News White House correspondent Aishah Hasnie, Trump confirmed that envoys Steve Witkoff and Jared Kushner had been preparing to depart but were instructed to cancel the trip.

"I've told my people a little while ago they were getting ready to leave, and I said, 'Nope, you're not making an 18 hour flight to go there. We have all the cards. They can call us anytime they want, but you're not going to be making any more 18 hour flights to sit around talking about nothing’," Trump said.

The U.S. president added that Washington remains open to communication, but expects Tehran to take the initiative.

Meanwhile, Iran’s Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi reportedly departed Islamabad following talks held earlier on April 25 with the country’s prime minister.
