Trump claims he was Ukraine’s “only card” against disaster
US President Donald Trump asserted that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy “has had no cards” since the outset of Russia’s full-scale invasion, claiming that his own involvement was the key factor preventing a “total disaster.”
“Zelenskyy doesn’t have the cards. He didn’t — he didn’t have the cards from Day 1. He’s only got one thing. President Trump. Donald Trump,” Trump said in an interview with The New York Times.
Trump emphasized the pivotal role he believes he played in managing the crisis. “If he doesn’t have Donald Trump, that thing would have been a total disaster, and he knows it, and the European leaders know, and everybody knows it,” he added.
Speaking about the stakes of the early months of the war, Trump warned that without his involvement, the conflict “could have evolved into a third world war. It was going very badly, very badly. That won’t happen anymore.”
