Trump declares Antifa domestic terrorist organisation
US President Donald Trump has signed an executive order designating the Antifa movement as a domestic terrorist organisation.
The text of the document was published on the White House website, Caliber.Az reports.
Antifa is designated as a terrorist organisation due to its "pattern of political violence aimed at suppressing legitimate political activity and undermining the rule of law.”
The order describes Antifa as a militarist, anarchist movement that uses illegal means to organise and execute violence nationwide, obstruct federal law enforcement, target officers, and threaten political figures. It further states that the group recruits, trains, and radicalises young Americans and coordinates with other entities to advance political violence.
Previously, The Wall Street Journal, citing sources, reported that bullets bearing the movement's slogans were found in the rifle allegedly used to kill right-wing activist Charlie Kirk.
The day after Donald Trump announced his intention to designate Antifa as a terrorist organisation, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán announced his intention to grant the organisation the same designation.
The Antifa movement has no centralised structure, and the term itself is used to refer to all anti-fascists.
