Trump declares “long and painful nightmare” is over for Israel and Middle East
US President Donald Trump has addressed members of the Knesset, the Israeli parliament.
"The hostages are back, it feels so good to say it," Trump told cheering Knesset members, Caliber.Az reports per Reuters.
He said it was a very exciting time for Israel and the Middle East.
"Now, at last, not only for Israelis, but also for Palestinians and for many others. The long and painful nightmare is finally over," he said.
Trump said the U.S. had provided Israel with a lot of weapons.
"You used them well," he added. "So many that Israel became strong and powerful, which ultimately led to peace. That's what led to peace."
"This is the historic dawn of a new Middle East," Trump said, going on to praise Netanyahu.
"This is not only the end of a war," he added. "It's the start of a grand concord and lasting harmony for Israel and all the nations of what will soon be a truly magnificent region."
He added that Netanyahu was "not the easiest guy to deal with, but that is what makes him great. That's what makes him good. Thank you very much Bibi, great job."
"Generations from now this will be remembered as the moment that everything began to change, and change very much for the better," Trump said.
