Trump does not rule out sending US troops to Iran “if they were necessary"
02 March 2026 22:21
US President Trump told The New York Post on March 2 that he’s not ruling out sending US ground troops into Iran “if they were necessary."
He then added that Operation Epic Fury was “way ahead of schedule” by taking out dozens of Tehran’s top officials.
“I don’t have the yips with respect to boots on the ground — like every president says, ‘There will be no boots on the ground.’ I don’t say it,” Trump said. “I say ‘probably don’t need them,’ [or] ‘if they were necessary.'”
Meanwhile, in an interview with CNN Trump said it was unclear who was now leading the country.
"We don’t know who the leadership is. We don’t know who they’ll pick. Maybe they’ll get lucky and get someone who knows what they’re doing," he said.
