Trump elevates gun rights protection to top priority
US President Donald Trump reaffirmed his commitment to protecting the Second Amendment, which guarantees the right to keep and bear arms, during an Independence Day address.
Speaking in a speech published by PBS News on YouTube, Trump said preserving the Second Amendment right to own firearms remains one of his top priorities.
President Trump issued an executive order titled “Protecting Second Amendment Rights” on February 7, 2025, directing federal agencies to review and eliminate perceived infringements on gun ownership.
His administration has pursued rollbacks of various Biden-era firearm regulations through the Justice Department and ATF, including efforts to restore rights for certain individuals under legal disabilities and ease dealer shipping rules.
