Trump hails AfD victory in Germany, blames immigration policies

US President Donald Trump has described the Alternative for Germany (AfD) party’s victory in state elections in Saxony-Anhalt as a “really big night,” attributing the result to voter dissatisfaction with Germany’s immigration policies.

“They finally got tired of the absolutely horrible Immigration ​rules and regulations which ​have hurt Germany so badly,” Trump wrote on his Truth Social platform.

The AfD secured a record 43.8% of the vote in the Saxony-Anhalt election, winning 39 of the 83 seats in the state parliament. The party fell three seats short of an absolute majority.

Germany’s governing Christian Democratic Union (CDU) received 17.2% of the vote.
